Dr Craig Richards

Medical Director

As Medical Director of MEDEVAC.FLIGHTS, Dr Richards brings with him a wealth of experience in all facets of critical care, and is actively transferring this knowledge into the dynamic field of aeromedical retrievals.

His career began as a trainee in Emergency Medicine in a large tertiary hospital, before realising his passion was in caring for the critically ill and injured in the Intensive Care Unit.

After six years as a Flight Doctor for MEDEVAC.FLIGHTS, Dr. Richards now takes a hands-on approach to leading our aeromedical retrievals, ensuring the safe transfer of patients. His dedication to education is evident through his instructorship in Cardiac Advanced Life Support programs and Senior Lecturer positions at Griffith and Bond Universities.

Dr. Richards also prioritises ongoing learning, pursuing a Master of Aeromedical Retrieval at Charles Darwin University, and is a proud member of the Aeromedical Society of Australasia.

Peter Newman

Nursing Director

Mr Newman has over 20 years’ experience as a Registered Nurse, working in Australia, Ireland and the UK in areas of critical care including Emergency and Aeromedical Retrieval.

Peter has previously been employed by large assistance companies, including World Travel Protection and Allianz Global Assistance as a Medical Case Manager and Aeromedical Retrieval Nurse.

In addition to Peter’s clinical experience, he has acted in or held several management positions including Executive appointments covering a wide range of services inclusive of, Critical Care, Surgical, Medical, Mental Health and Oncology environments.

Peter holds post graduate qualifications in Emergency, Aeromedicine, Business and has a Masters In Healthcare Management (Quality and Patient Safety). In addition, Peter is an Associate Fellow of the College of Health Service Management.

In 2015 Peter was made a member of The Order of St John (MStJ) for his work with St John Ambulance where he held the position of State Nursing Officer for a number of years in a volunteer capacity.

William Cassidy

Managing Director

Having worked in the finance sector for several years, including Deutsche Bank in London, William moved back to Australia and channelled his experiences into a more innovative field, taking on the challenge to improve the financial strength and operational procedures for a leading Australian online retailer. He later created a Fin-Tech company to solve the problems he saw with online retail, which was sold at the end of 2015.

William now leads the MEDEVAC.FLIGHTS business, bringing together skills learnt in his previous roles and a love of science, technology and medicine to deliver aeromedical flights in the most efficient way possible. He holds a Master of Finance, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Commerce.

Dr John Affleck

Medical Advisor and Founding Medical Director

Dr Affleck brings decades of experience in aviation medicine, having undertaken countless inter-state and international retrievals. Having been the Medical Director of MEDEVAC.FLIGHTS for our first seven years of operations, Dr Affleck remains an important advisor to our operations.

He was formally the Chief Medical Officer of The Royal Flying Doctor Service and Medical Director of Sydney International Airport Medical Centre. Furthermore, Dr Affleck is a Foundation Fellow of the Australian College of Aerospace Medicine, Associate Fellow of the Aerospace Medical Association and an academic of the International Academy of Aviation and Space Medicine. He also is the Director of Aerospace Health Australia and worked in Occupational and Aviation Medicine as DAME.

Dr Affleck holds a Master of Medicine (Critical Care Medicine).

Dr Timothy Parker

Advisor and Training Manager

Dr Parker is an Emergency Medicine doctor with extensive expertise in pre-hospital and critical care aeromedical retrieval. His experience spans organisations including LifeFlight, RFDS, and MEDEVAC.FLIGHTS.

As a University of Oxford alumnus, Dr Parker’s specialist Emergency Medicine training includes ACEM-accredited rotations in anaesthetics, ICU, and pre-hospital and retrieval medicine. He holds certifications in life support disciplines and is an active international conference speaker. Dr Parker is also a senior corporate medical consultant for Critical Care International, specialising in remote emergency medical response solutions.

Dr Parker co-authored ‘Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine at a Glance,’ earning him accolades such as the British Medical Association’s Young Author’s Prize and Most Recommended in Surgery title.

A dedicated educator, Dr Parker serves as a simulation training instructor across organisations, having co-founded the Oxford University Medical School’s International Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine and Major Trauma Conference series.

Clinical Teams

Doctors

We employ Emergency and Intensive Care Doctors that have at least five years clinical experience in their respective fields. This means all of our Doctors are Consultant or Senior Registrar level. All of our Doctors also hold positions in the hospital setting, ensuring maintenance of clinical skills and ongoing education. Through our extensive medical network, we also have the ability to call upon Specialists in other fields when necessary.

Minimum Requirements
  • AHPRA Registration
  • Skills and experience in emergency medicine, intensive care, anaesthetics, and/or paediatrics
  • Training and experience in Advanced Life Support
  • Competence in advanced clinical skills
  • Participation in ongoing professional education in relevant areas

Nurses

We employ specialist Critical Care/Aeromedical retrieval nurses with vast experience in door-to-door retrievals and critical care. All of our nurses possess relevant postgraduate qualifications.

Minimum Requirements
  • AHPRA registration
  • Significant post graduate experience critical care environments
  • Training and experience in Advanced Life Support
  • Competence in advanced clinical skills
  • Participation in ongoing professional education in relevant areas
